14 Sep 19 – Pewsey Vale v Trowbridge 3 Match Report

Pewsey Vale 69 – 22 Trowbridge 3XV

PEWSEY VANQUISH VISITORS WITH TEN TRY VICTORY

This was a fine demonstration of Pewsey’s ability to score from anywhere on the pitch running in from areas of mid-field and as far back as their own 22. The visitors maintained their endeavour scoring four tries but, were overcome by Pewsey pace and power.

Receiving the kick off, Pewsey drove forward, got the ball out wide to wing Toni Bloomfield who sprinted to the line, off-loading to number eight Phil Vallis who crashed over the line, converted by fly half Tom Regan.

Three minutes later flanker Olly Spence drove through the visitors’ defence from 30 metres out to score between the posts, Regan added the extras.

The next ten minutes had Trowbridge camped in Vale’s 22. Solid defence had kept them at bay until a quick tap penalty caught the defence unawares to hit the white wash, converted.

Pewsey hit back immediately with Vallis scoring a second try, converted by Regan. From broken play Trowbridge hit back with a winger’s try, unconverted.

Two more converted tries and a penalty before half time extended Pewsey’s lead. First up centre James Haynes hurtling through to touch down; followed by fellow centre Sam Flippance forcing his way over. Regan’s trusty boot adding the conversions and penalty.

HT – Pewsey 38 – 12 Trowbridge

From the restart Pewsey dominated set piece play, territory and field position. The visitors’ efforts to break the gain line were time and again driven back and kicks through were carried back with devastating effect.

By the end of the third quarter Pewsey scored four tries. After two minutes full back Pete Baird ran in to dot down between the posts converted by Regan.

Next, Vallis was in for his hat-trick, followed by replacement flanker Bertie Bowerman diving over for the try, both unconverted. Haynes took his second try of the day running in from 20 metres, Regan converting.

To their credit Trowbridge stuck to their task, helped by over-cooked eagerness on Pewsey’s part resulting in unforced errors. Taking advantage of this the visitors scored two unconverted tries in a five minute spell.

Pewsey finished the scoring, with flanker Olly Lavis touching down, converted by Regan.
