5 OCT 19 – SWINDON II VS PEWSEY VALE MATCH REPORT

A lacklustre first half performance cost Pewsey the game, however, a strong last half hour delivered losing and try bonus points.

At the end of the first half Swindon had ran in four tries, one converted with a one try response from Pewsey Hooker Nick Damper, who on 30 minutes barrelled over at the rear of a driving maul, unconverted.

Half-Time: Swindon II 22 – 5 Pewsey Vale

Five minutes after the restart Swindon scored an unconverted try to take the score to 27 – 5. Pewsey were on the ropes.

Ten minutes later, a super individual effort from Full-back Pete Baird; who sprinting from his own 22, broke through five tackles to dot down under the posts, Centre Harry Morgan adding the extras.

Against the run of play Swindon were next up with a converted try. Pewsey Flanker Chris Spence then scored in the corner to turn the tide.

The last fifteen minutes belonged to Pewsey.

Two storming tries came from Flanker Olly Spence. His first from Pewsey’s own half smashing through the home team’s defence to score between the posts, scrum half Tom Flippance converting. His second from a quick tap penalty 40 metres out, unconverted.

Pewsey ended the game on the front foot ruing missed opportunities and a very poor first half performance.

Pewsey travel to Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew RFC on 12th October in a Dorset & Wilts Junior Vase Quarter Final fixture.
