Pewsey’s away fixture against Melksham II was postponed yesterday an hour before kickoff due to a waterlogged pitch.
This was disappointing for the team as Pewsey were no doubt fielding their strongest team this season with lots of availability. The return of Jamie Fox, Jeremy Horton and Freddie Prettyjohns was going to add a new dimension and attacking flair to the Pewsey gameplan.
Pewsey were not the only team to suffer from the weather with Devizes’ fixture abandoned after they chalked up an early 10-0 lead against Colerne.
Across the remainder of the league, Corsham II smashed Trowbridge III 65-10. Top of the table Westbury have yet to lose a match this season after they ran in 37 points to 17 at Supermarine. In the local derby, Swindon II came out victors in a closely fought match at SCOB II with a final score of 19-21. Before this weekend both Combe Down and Amesbury had yet to secure a win in the league; yesterday, hosts Combe Down came out on top 22-17.
Due to a number of abandoned and postponed fixtures this season the league table doesn’t give a true reflection of team standings. Only 5 of the 12 teams have played all their scheduled fixtures, with 5 more needing to play an extra fixture. SCOB II have yet to play 2 fixtures and Colerne are required to play 3 (not including their semi-final fixture against Pewsey!). Current League league table below.
